Modena racetrack
Modena and the engines have historically shown a great deal of complicity, even before the construction of the first circuits.
Initially, the first races were held on road tracks, in fact the Modena circuit, or rather the beginning of its creation, dates back to 1947.
The first two editions saw as a theater a 12km extra-urban track to be covered 30 times, proclaiming winner Enzo Ferrari on Alfa.
March 7, 1948 represents a key date of fundamental importance for the creation of the circuit, in fact the lawyer Camillo Donati, in Milan, illustrated to the Automobil Club d 'Italia the need to build a sports facility in the city of Modena, presenting the project by the surveyor Enzo Dalaiti.
The works useful for the construction of the track began on March 28, 49 'with a municipal contribution of 15 million.
In less than a year, driven by great enthusiasm, the track was already operational and consequently inaugurated.
The circuit measured exactly 2.306 km, potentially 3.800 with the insertion of the airfield.
The track, strongly desired by the city and by the inhabitants themselves, who have always been lovers of engines, was initially used as a test track by sports car and motorcycle manufacturers, sometimes even by the soldiers of the nearby barracks. A fairly varied set of uses gave fundamental importance to this brand new structure.
With its eleven years of competitive activity, the Aerautodromo became the centerpiece of the Modena-sports car combination.
From 1950 to 1961 there are seven editions of the Modena Grand Prix for F2, the competitive activity and prestige with which the city was and is invested played a key role in increasing the fame of the circuit.
Unfortunately, towards the end of the 1960s, the circuit was no longer compliant with the safety standards that would soon be prescribed.
Therefore Enzo Ferrari, who frequently needed the circuit, decided to build the Fiorano private circuit, failing to involve the city administration in the creation of a more modern and current system.
It is believed that some demonstrations had hosted more than 50,000 spectators, more than half of the population at the time.
