The season of 2014 is not too happy, he starts the world championship falling in Qatar and then commits a false start in Texas which costs him a ride trough and a tenth place at the finish. Ends the third season, behind his teammate Rossi and compatriot Marquez.

In 2015 after a problem with the internal helmet protections in Qatar, an episode of bronchitis in Austin and a wrong choice of tires in Argentina, he returned to success at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit where he scored pole position, also winning the three subsequent grand prizes in Le Mans, Mugello and Catalunya.

On 8 November 2015 he took the 5th world title by triumphing in the Valencia Grand Prix in front of his compatriots Marc Márquez and Dani Pedrosa. On this occasion Jorge Lorenzo overcomes the direct opponent to the title Valentino Rossi, who started from the last position (reached 4th at the finish) for irregularities detected during the Malaysian Grand Prix, for only 5 lengths.
